We’re a day late on this, mostly because it’s been a bit hectic around the Soundboard Magazine offices, but Ghost dropped a new single yesterday titled Square Hammer, and also announced that they’ll be releasing a new EP THIS FRIDAY! Yup, you read that correctly, Ghost are springing new music on us in a few short days. The EP will be titled Popestar and will feature 5 tracks, the list of which can be found below.
As you may or may not know, Ghost are headed back out on the road shortly for another North American headlining tour. They’ll be coming our way in November when they hit Brooklyn’s Kings Theater, and we’ll work to bring coverage of that show when the time comes. For now, though, A Nameless Ghoul had this to say about the new track: “We’re very proud of it. We’re obviously thrilled to be able to play something new. This is a short, to-the-point little gem right at the jugular.” – The track has an unusual poppy sound to it, which coincides with the band’s wordplay in the title of their upcoming EP – Popestar.
“If you hear the EP, don’t think that, ‘Oh, the next album is gonna sound exactly like this,’ but that is a good way for us to sneak in elements that are, like, you might hear a synth sound like this on the next record, but not as evident,” a Nameless Ghoul told No Brown M&Ms, later adding, “…we’re doing something else in order to get people to feel comfortable with [the direction of the next album].”
That’s all we’ve got on the new track. The embedder’s no working, so you’ll have to check it out here. EP artwork below the track listing.
