Finnish death metal powerhouse Insomnium are set to release their new album, Winter’s Gate, on September 23rd. Winter’s Gate will be the follow-up to the band’s hugely successful 2014 release, Shadows of the Dying Sun, which was hailed by media and fans alike as one of the must-own albums of 2014.
That hugely popular album has set Insomnium up for another monster year as they get set to release Winter’s Gate and, presumably, kick off a tour in support of the album. The premise of Winter’s Gate is a short story written by vocalist/bassist Nillo Sevanen. The concept sees a group of Vikings out to find a fabled island west of Ireland, despite the treacherous winter drawing near. The full story will actually be released alongside the Winter’s Gate album in English, Finnish and German. The tale will also feature illustrations by Teemu Tahkanen. As for the album, none other than Dan Swano will be handling mixing duties in Sweden.
I have no doubt that we’ll be getting our first taste of the new Insomnium album in the near future, with the release date essentially right around the corner. Hopefully before summer’s end, we’ll be blasting the first track off Winter’s Gate. We’ll have more news from the Insomnium camp as we get closer to the album’s release date.
