The one and only James Hetfield, frontman of metal legends Metallica has finally confirmed what we’ve all hoped for: the new Metallica album is finished, recorded and in the mixing stage with a planned release for this fall!
Hetfield told CBS Sports of all outlets. “We’re mixing it now, so hopefully by fall it’ll be out and hitting people’s ears. We’re super stoked about it, it’s been a long time coming…”
“This is what we do, we love playing. And the next album is exactly what it’s supposed to be. So we’re excited about it.”
Lars Ulrich, the bands drummer, previously stated that the album will be finished by this summer, so it’s looking like everything is on track for a release date sometime this fall. Lars said: “The month of June is basically when we’re gonna sit down and figure what we’re gonna do with it all; what we’re gonna call it and what’s gonna be on it… Greg Fidelman is 24/7 on this record and has been since last summer. He’s doing an insanely great job and has been putting his heart and soul in it pretty much every waking moment of his life in helping us engineer and produce this record.”
Lars later added:: “If the record doesn’t come out this year, then it won’t be because it’s not done. It will be because there’s some sort of cosmic reason that it would be smarter to hold onto it until next year. But the record will be done this summer.” So, with that in mind, we’re going to go ahead and speculate an October release date. The only reason that would make sense as far as holding the album over until next year would be to immediately announce a massive summer tour in time for all the big festival dates both in the US and UK. Metallica headlining next year’s Download Festival would be all kinds of awesome. Just sayin’.
Stay tuned for more on the new Metallica album as it happens.
