METALLICA Announce New Album, Release Single “Hardwired”

HOLY CRAP! We had our doubts about whether this would really happen, but doubt no more! METALLICA is definitely releasing a new album this year! In case you’ve been equally busy today and missed the news earlier, the new album is titled Hardwired…to Self Destruct, and will be released on November 18th. If that wasn’t news enough, METALLICA also graced us with the album’s first single, Hardwired, for our listening pleasure.

The album marks the end of an 8-year dry spell for METALLICA fans, as we haven’t had a new album since Death Magnetic way back in 2008. For those of us who have been waiting for the band to finally confirm what the rumor mill has been churning most of the summer, wait no more. It’s really real, it’s really happening and it’s coming in just 3 short months from today. Hardwired is a short, concise 3-minute heavy hitter full of neck-snapping head-banging riffs and high energy vocals from James Hetfield, who curses a lot on the track, so we’ll attach the NSFW warning to this one for those of you who might be at the office. Check out the video below, and then scroll down for more on the new album.

So yeah, there it is, 3 minutes of METALLICA bad-assery in full force. I personally can’t wait for the new album after hearing that, and seeing the album artwork, which you can view at the bottom. If Hardwired is any indication, METALLICA are headed back to their 80’s roots and getting away from the sound of St. Anger and Death Magnetic, which is very welcome news. As for the artwork for Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, it showcases a warped amalgamation of each band member’s face, joined into one sincerely terrifying head. In fact, it looks like some kind of monster! The band’s traditional angular logo has also been altered, reflecting a glitchy font as a middle section has been skewed. The single artwork features just Hetfield with two pairs of eyes, a distorted, agape mouth, all drenched in a red hue, and it looks awesome as hell. Check it out for yourselves:

That does it for now. We’ll have more on the album as details become available, though I’d expect at least one more single prior to the release date.
