Metallica Announce North American “WorldWired” Tour with A7X, Volbeat

Today’s big news likely came as a surprise to exactly nobody, as Metallica has been teasing an announcement for days now that was presumed to be a North American tour with Avenged Sevelfold and Volbeat. After a week or so of speculation, Metallica delivered today news that most everyone with an ear in the industry already knew – they’re hitting the road for 23 dates, and A7X and Volbeat will indeed be along for the ride as support and opening act, respectively.

Volbeat’s a hell of an opener – we covered them on their headline tour last summer, which you can read about here – and they’re sure to be an instant winner for anyone attending the shows on the North American run. There were rumors that Avenged Sevenfold would do their own headline tour this summer, but they will instead lend direct support to Metallica on a tour that will see them performing in 80,000 seat stadiums.

The main attraction, of course, will be Metallica, who, fresh off their Grammy performance with Lady Gaga – where James Hetfield‘s mic was cut off and the band wasn’t even introduced – will be supporting their new album Hardwired…to Self Destruct when the tour kicks off in may. The run will mostly be stadium shows, along with the local NYC area date being at the newly renovated and soon to open Nassau Coliseum, which this show will promptly blow the shiny new roof off of. The tour kicks off May 10th in Baltimore and comes through our area with two shows, the first of which will be at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ on May 14 and the second will be the Coliseum date on May 17th. Also worth noting is that Gojira will be appearing on select dates – we also covered them back in October, so check that out too

Pre-sale tickets for Legacy Fan Club members will be available Tuesday (Feb. 14). General admission tickets will go on sale Friday (Feb. 17). Also, as a cool added bonus, every ticket purchase includes a copy of the new album. That’s awesome, and I’ll take an album with a ticket any day. Check out the tour dates below.
