REVIEW: Snow Patrol Heats Up New York

Look, it’s almost the end of April and it’s been unseasonably cold here in NYC for the past few weeks, so it’s only fitting that Irish-Scottish rockers Snow Patrol came to town on Wednesday night. Authors of Chasing Cars, the band’s biggest hit and hands-down their most popular song, Snow Patrol are set to release a new album, Wildness, in just about a month and are currently on tour kicking ass and selling out shows as a prelude to the album launch, and they brought their act to the sold-out Irving Plaza for a 17-song performance that drove the entire place nuts.

Of course, the masses erupted when the band played Chasing Cars, which is even better live and more fun to see them play than I could have imagined, but there were many other highlights worth discussing. Tunes like Take Back The City, Crack The Shutters, Set Fire to the Third Bar, Shut Your Eyes and You’re All I Have graced the setlist along with the show’s opening number, Open Your Eyes (seriously, they just told me to shut them. Schrodinger’s songwriter?) which got the show off and running in a fashion even a thoroughbred could have appreciated.

The night’s encore featured iWhat If This Is All the Love You Get and Just Say Yes to close bring the curtain down on a night full of good tunes and good fun in a packed house that saw 400 comp tickets given out, along with the nice touch of a VIP laminate from the tour to get me into the normally-GA balcony which was VIP-only for this show. On a night where there were hundreds of industry people in the house, Snow Patrol heated things up for a couple hours and rocked the roof off Irving Plaza. Check out the photo gallery below:
