UPDATED: EPICA Tease North American “Principle” Tour; To Be Supported by Fleshgod Apocalypse; Tour Dates Announced

Updated 6/27

Following the teaser video for EPICA’s  impending “Principle” tour, the band today have announced a full slate of tour dates, and it turns out they’ll actually be hitting the road in early November, rather than mid-October as we have previously predicted. The North American Principle tour, in support of “The Holographic Principle” officially kicks off on 11/4 at the Imperial Theater in Quebec City, Canada. The band will make their way to our area on 12/2, to play at Webster Hall. We’ll likely be in attendance for the NYC show, and we’ll bring you full coverage once it happens. For now, check out the full tour schedule below, complete with promo poster. It’s worth noting that the dates with asterisks next to them are to indicate that Xandria will be replacing Arkona, so it appears that Arkona will not be performing in Canada.

Original Post 6/24

Dutch metallers EPICA earlier today released a teaser video via their Facebook page to announce that they will be hitting the road once again this fall to support their forthcoming album, The Holographic Principle. Supporting EPICA on tour will be Fleshgod ApocalypseArkona and The Agonist. While cities and dates have yet to be announced, we can expect those details to come in the later this summer. It should be noted that this will be EPICA’s second time hitting North America this year; they previously toured the US and Canada over the winter, hitting the NYC area in late January, which I was able to cover.

The Holographic Principle is due out September 30th via Nuclear Blast Records, and will be the band’s seventh studio album to date. The record was produced by Joost van der Broek at Sandlane Recording Facilities and was mixed by Jacob Hansen (who previously worked with VOLBEAT). The cover artwork was created by Stefan Heilemann. The band said about the album: “‘The Holographic Principle’ deals with the near future wherein virtual reality has taken off and allows people to create their own virtual worlds which can’t be distinguished from ‘reality as we know it.’ This raises the question whether our current reality is a kind of virtual reality on itself, a hologram. This implies the existence of a higher reality which we currently do not have access to. The lyrics challenge you to think out of the box, to reconsider everything you thought to know for sure and to be open-minded towards recent revolutions in science. Fasten your seat belts and get ready for a ride as nothing appears to be what it seems in our holographic universe.”

We’ll have more once tour dates are announced, but given the album’s release date, we’re guessing the tour will kick off some time in mid October.
